Cultural events and festivities

Every year in June, authors and illustrators of children’s books on a specific theme are gathered in Sartrouville. This event is also an opportunity to present the work and achievements of early childhood structures in the city.

Places and monuments

The Saint-Martin church , built in 1009 during the reign of Robert the Pious , has a stone spire dating from the Middle Ages . It celebrated its millennium in 2009 after major works which revealed magnificent frescoes and paintings of great beauty. The Saint-Martin church is listed in the inventory of historical monuments.

The Vaudoire castle  : originally, it was a hamlet located southwest of the village. The 300  hectares of the domain were, for their part, attached to the village in 1789 to constitute the current limits of the commune.

The culture of the vine

Sartrouville has long been a place for growing vines . In particular, the following grape varieties were cultivated there: gamay noir, gois, meunier, morillon as evidenced by certain street names such as: rue des Morillons, rue Gamay, etc.

But today, some plants are cultivated near the Saint-Martin church. The harvest festival, during which the grapes are pressed, takes place every autumn in the park of the Dispensary.

Sports

Triathlon

Every year since 1994, the Sartrouville Triathlon has taken place , created by Pierre Véron with the help of the municipality. The competition will regularly take place as the final of the Île-de-France Championship . The ECS (Esperance Cycliste de Sartrouville) becomes a leading triathlon team: Isabelle and Béatrice Mouthon will participate in the Olympic Games in Sydney as well as Jan Rehula for the Czech delegation. The latter will win the bronze medal.

Cycling

The Esperance Cycliste de Sartrouville is an association created in 1950, which saw the emergence of many riders at the highest amateur level, the 1 st  category. This section of the ECS is geared towards competitive cycling. Each year, the club organizes, on the territory of the municipality, minimal events, cadets and seniors. This day of competitions usually takes place at the start of the cycling season (between April and June).

Cross

Every year since March 1986, takes place the Cross International of Sartrouville. 8.390  km long , the cross takes place in December at the Yuri-Gagarin Park. It is organized by Michel Seris and his team. It was in 2003 that this event takes a turning point when the international friend of the organizer, Zahia Dahmani 4 th  French cross European Championships finalist and semi marathon World Championships participates in our sartrouvilloise test. His presence has really boosted the women’s race and attracted many top athletes like: Said Berioui ,  Tarik Bouzid, etc.

Without forgetting the Moroccan, Algerian, Kenyan, Eritrean, Burundian, Russian, Belarusian, Ukrainian, Namibian, Ugandan athletes… who contributed to the notoriety of our Sartrouville event.

Today, this cross is classified in the 4 or 5 best of the hexagon. The wish of the former organizer is that this event lasts a long time and in the same state of mind. “Friendliness, friendship, honesty and above all not to take the lead”.

It has become one of the biggest crosses in Île-de-France.
