Compiègne is a commune in the Oise department in northern France. It is located on the river Oise. Its inhabitants are called Compiégnois.

Geography
Location
The city of Compiègne is located downstream from the confluence of the rivers Oise and Aisne , in the department of Oise . It constitutes the third urban area, with 98,418 inhabitants.
The city is located less than an hour by motorway from Paris and around 40 minutes from Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle Airport .
In the south-east extends the national forest of Compiègne .
The city is located at the limits of Valois and Soissonnais , the natural junction point of the three geographical and cultural areas of Picardy , Champagne and Île-de-France .
Economy
In 1996, the city acquired the L’Européen Parc business district .
The Mercières district, located to the south of the city, is home to many businesses across a vast area of tertiary and industrial activity.
The largest aluminum recycling center in France is located at Compiègne. This center has 5 ovens which employ 84 people for the company Regial Affimet.

Higher education
The Compiègne University of Technology (UTC), a large public engineering school, which offers general training in the fields of mechanics, biology, IT, industrial processes and urban systems is located in Compiègne , just like the Ecole supérieure de commerce de Compiègne and the Ecole supérieure de chimie bio et minérale (ESCOM).
In addition, Compiègne includes one of the three preparatory classes for the grandes écoles (CPGE) of Picardy with those of the lycée Louis-Thuillier d ‘ Amiens and those of the lycée Marie-Curie of Nogent-sur-Oise , present since the 1980s in Pierre-d’Ailly high school .
Health
Compiègne has a public hospital center with an emergency center, a medicine center, a surgery center and an intensive care unit.
The City also has the Polyclinique Saint-Côme, the first clinic in Picardy. The Nephron, a building specializing in kidney disease, is adjacent to the clinic.
The hospital center has a CIMA (Advanced Medical Imaging Center), which notably performs scintigraphies .

Civil heritage
Thirty elements of the civil heritage of Compiègne are protected as historical monuments , three of which have disappeared: a half-timbered house , the Jeanne-d’Arc bridge and the sign of the Auberge des Trois-Lurons. Only three monuments are listed, namely the castle, the town hall and the Agincourt hotel, rue Fournier-Sarlovèze. Fifteen protected objects are dwellings or buildings, the interest of which usually lies more in their historical importance than in their architecture.
