Nyírlugos is a town in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary.

Location 

Nyírlugos is located in the northeastern part of the Great Plain , it belongs to the Nyírség , which rises 20-50 meters above the plane of the Trans-Tisza . Nyírlugos is located in the southeastern part of Nyírség. This region is the largest running sand area in Nyírség, its surface consists of a mass of sand dunes. From the sand, the wind formed parabolic mounds and wind furrows. The town belongs to Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county . The city is bordered by the following settlements: northeast: Encsencs , northwest: Nyírmihálydi , east: Nyírbéltek , southeast: Fülöp , southwest: Nyíracsád , west: Nyíradony.

Nyírlugos can be approached on the lower road branching off from road number 4371 in Ligetalja , South Nyírség , the nearest railway station is in Nyírmihálydi. (Between 1950 and 1977 , the Debrecen-Nyírbéltek narrow-gauge railway line affected the settlement.) Its height above sea level is 160 meters, here is the second highest point of Nyírség. The watershed of the Tisza and Körös regions . The western part of the city directly borders Hajdú-Bihar county . The county seat of Nyíregyháza is 42 km northwest, the former district seat of Nyírbátor is 26 km northeast, while Hajdú-Bihar countyits headquarters, Debrecen , is located 38 km southwest.

History 

Relatively late, in the XIV. In the 16th century , wedged between the estates of the Gutkeled clan , it appears as a purchased estate among the diploma data. Its name comes from the common word arbor.

1354 in the Báthory family Ecsed branch shared it. From then on, it always belonged to the branch of the family that owned Ecsed. According to the data of 1428 , it belonged to the Ecsedi manor , but the Báthory estate. Stephen Bathory country with the death of Gabriel Bathory prince, and after its death, the estate included Ecsed as Bethlen Gábor got who in 1627 in his 3000 pledge HUF István Farkas.

II. György Rákóczi took it without reimbursing the pledge amount, but in 1666 Zsófia Báthory returned it to Erzsébet Farkas, with whose hands gr. János Barkóczy took possession.

In 1607 , by mutual agreement of Szabolcs and Szatmár counties , he came to Szabolcs county, but half of them were still in Szatmár.

In 1723, in a lawsuit over the affiliation of the two parts, it turned out that it had been barren for a few decades, but by then they were already living on 48 plots, in the form of a roadside but row of houses.

In 1828 the whole village belonged to the Károlyians with 139 married serfs, 28 married and 4 unmarried celery.

Over the centuries, two settlements have merged into Nyírlugos: Szennyes (today Szabadságtelep ) and Makra.

Resolution No. 85/2005 of the President of the Republic of Hungary [VI.29.] KE. Nyírlugos Nagyközség 2005 . on July 1, it rose to city rank.
