Archaeological Museum of Nikopolis

The Archaeological Museum of Nikopolis is a museum in Nicopolis, in the Preveza regional unit in northwestern Greece.

In Corridor A growing the Timeline, with the most important events from the death of Alexander the Great to the battle of Actium and the foundation of Nikopolis.

In A Room presents the establishment and development of the city until the decline and abandonment through architectural, altars, statues, busts, coins, ceramics, glass and metal finds. The exhibition is developed through a three-part format:

The shipwreck of Aktio and the Monument of the Victory of Augustus

The Roman City and its Infrastructures

The Transition to the Early Christian City and the Early Byzantine Times

The Russian city of Nikopolis is presented through the settlement, the coinage, the public buildings, the worship and the public life, while the transition to the new era is still projected, so the city regains its character as a key religious and administrative center, her, religious life and the basilicas.

In Room B, aspects from the life of the inhabitants of Nikopolis are projected over time, such as their commercial and handicraft activities, their daily life and their attitude towards death. A kind of imaginary “walk” is taking shape, from the port to the workshops, houses and cemeteries of the city. Exhibits, bricks, vases, jewelry, tools, toys as well as burial mounds of sarcophagi and urns in glass and clay vessels are on display.

At the exit of Room B, a painting by TabuLa PeutigeRiana is displayed , a copy of a medieval map marking the location of Nikopolis. In the corridors C and D shows the history of the site through archival material, including the history of the excavations from the early 20th century (Av. Ioannina, Preveza)
