Archaeological site of Nikopolis

Greece

Nikopolis belongs to the few ancient cities in Greece that were fortunate enough to escape the constant construction (Thessaloniki, Athens), the continuous exploitation of the land and the reuse of their ancient building material. Thus, many monuments of the city were preserved in good condition, which is a typical example of Roman architecture and urban planning, but at the same time it is possible to observe in its buildings all the architectural changes imposed by Christianity. The area of Nikopolis extended from the mountains of Kassopaia to the borders of Roman Patras in Aetolia and from Acheloos to Lefkada.
