The Vlaardingse Openbare Scholengroep (De Vos) is a secondary education school. Together with the public secondary schools in Schiedam, we form the Public School Group Vlaardingen Schiedam (OSVS). Education is offered from the level of VMBO BBL up to and including gymnasium. We also offer education with learning support (LWOO) and Bilingual Education (tto).
What is our aim? We prepare students for a follow-up study within MBO, HBO or WO by providing generally accessible education. We develop individual qualities and challenge our students to develop them further.
We provide education:
• that matches your pace and way of working;• in which learning within and outside the school naturally blends into one another;• where the use of ICT is self-evident;• in a small-scale and safe environment where you feel good.
The Participation Council (MR) is the statutory body for participation and co-administration in education. An MR is a body consisting of staff members, parents and students together.
Within De Vos, the MR consists of six members of staff (teaching and educational support: OP and OOP), three parents and three students. Every school is required to have an MR. The School Participation Act (WMS) regulates the composition, tasks and powers of the council. The MR may discuss all topics that concern the school with the competent authority. The board is entitled to all information necessary for the performance of its duties. The council speaks for parents, staff and students.
In addition to the MR, there is also the employee participation council (PMR). This consists for 100% of employees (OP and OOP) and mainly deals with personnel matters.
The competent authority is obliged to set up a joint participation council (GMR) if it maintains more than one school of the same type of education.
Each MR of the school concerned is represented in the GMR. The members of the GMR are elected by the members of the respective individual participation councils. The GMR can discuss any matters of common interest to all schools or to a majority of those schools. The GMR can also submit proposals to the competent authority on these matters.
The Parent Council
– Do you want to be involved in your child (ren) ’s school?

We strive for a broad composition of the Works Council, in which parent (s) / caretaker (s) from all locations of De Vos are represented. A lot is happening at school and the Works Council is therefore always looking for enthusiastic parent (s) / caregiver (s) who are willing to contribute ideas. Target
De Vos‘ Parents Council (OR) aims to represent the interests of the parents of students. That is why we, representatives of parent (s) / caregiver (s), meet once every 2 months at Het Lyceum Vos on Koninginnelaan to consult with the school management.
Tasks
The Works Council has roughly three main tasks:
– Maintaining contacts between school management and parent (s) / caregiver (s). The Works Council identifies any problems or matters that could be improved, discusses them, seeks a solution together and advises the school management or passes the information on to the participation council (MR).
– Managing the voluntary parental contributions. This is a contribution towards the costs of activities and material items that cannot be paid for from the regular school budget (such as extra sports and cultural activities). Pupils at the end-of-year celebration or graduation ceremony are also paid from the voluntary parental contribution.
– Organizing theme evenings on a current theme related to upbringing and / or school matters. Examples of this are the adolescent brain, social media and social safety.
