Järvenpää

Finland

Järvenpää is a town and municipality in Finland. Neighbouring municipalities are Tuusula, Sipoo and Mäntsälä.

Culture 

Attractions 

Järvenpää is widely known for artists ’home museums, such as Jean Sibelius’s Ainola , located about two kilometers south of the city center. Master composer and his family moved Lars Sonck to draw for powerful log villa in September 1904. With Sibelius and painter Eero Järnefeltwith their families followed Ahoja, settling in their neighborhood, the unique Tuusulanjärvi artist community was born . Ainola and Ahola are open to the public during the summer, while Suviranta is still owned by the family as a private home.

On the shores of Lake Tuusulanjärvi, on the opposite side of Ainola, there is Villa Kokkonen , designed by Alvar Aalto , and the artist’s home of academician Joonas Kokkonen . The building that is currently being presented is called a sketch of the Finlandia House . The house is open to the public on a limited basis during the summer and can also be rented for meetings and parties. Ainola’s sister villa , Villa Cooper , which serves as a sales exhibition space, operates in the city center .

The collections of the art museum in the center of Järvenpää include works by Venny Soldan-Brofeldt and Eero Järnefelt in particular. In addition, the museum hosts changing themed exhibitions and side programs, such as artist meetings, workshops and public lectures.

One of the cleanest examples of modern architecture and concrete brutalism of the 1960s is Järvenpää Church . 

The Järvenpää Mosque in the Kinnari district is the only building in Finland built as a mosque. It was built by the Tatars in the 1940s and also has a minaret. 

Events

The Järvenpää House in the center of Järvenpää hosts cultural events throughout the year, such as concerts, theater performances and art exhibitions . There are e.g. every women ‘s day women ‘s day fair.  

At the beginning of May, Järvenpää Day will be held in the city center and in the autumn, the Maa elää market event will be held. Vibrant weeks are held in the spring and winter.

The annual music festival in the city begins after Midsummer in Puistoblues . Blues Week starts on the “blues street” in the center, in addition to concerts and jams at clubs and restaurants. The main concert will take place at the end of the blues week on Saturday in Vanhankylänniemi .

At the turn of July-August, Järvenpää hosts Our Festival (formerly Tuusulanjärvi Chamber Music Festival ), whose artistic director is violinist Pekka Kuusisto . During the event, concerts will be held in Tuusulanjärvi artist homes, churches and concert halls.

Food culture

Järvenpää pitäjäruoiksi was named in the 1980s carrot casserole , pickled herring sauce, smoked ham , hokkaloora ( potato casserole ) and rosolli .

Education 

Järvenpää is divided into three areas that provide basic education . The downtown areas of Järvenpää and the areas west of Lake Tuusulanjärvi belong to the Kartano area, where the schools operating are Harjula School (grades 1–6), Mankala School (grades 1–6) and Kartano School (grades 1–9). Southeastern Järvenpää belongs to the area of ​​the Co-educational School, where Kinnari School (grades 1–9), Kyrölä School (grades 1–6) and Järvenpää Co-educational School (grades 1–9) operate . Pohjoinen Järvenpää belongs to the Koivusaari area, where the Anttila school (grades 1–6), Haarajoki school (grades 1–6), Saunakallio school operate(grades 1–6) and Koivusaari School (grades 7–9). Juhola Special School is regionally part of the Co-educational School area, but it covers the entire city. 

Järvenpää High School is the second largest high school in Finland . Vocational training in Järvenpää is provided by the Central Uusimaa Vocational College Keuda and the vocational special education institution Spesia . Järvenpää College offers open university studies as well as hundreds of different courses and lectures. [ In addition, Järvenpää has the Parish College and the Luther College , which are located on the shores of Lake Tuusulanjärvi. 

Library 

The Järvenpää City Library operates in the Pöytäalho district, right in the city center at Kirjastokatu 8. It belongs to the Kirkes library network together with the Tuusula and Mäntsälä libraries. 

Health 

Järvenpää belongs to the Helsinki and Uusimaa hospital districts and the Hyvinkää hospital district.  The new Järvenpää Social and Health Center (JUST) , opened at the beginning of 2017, is located in the Pöytäalho district. It serves acute patients daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m .; at other times, people from Järvenpää are served by Hyvinkää Hospital .
