Finland

Kaarina is a small town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the Southwest Finland region and is a neighbouring town of Turku, which is the capital of Southwest Finland, therefore Kaarina is a part of the Greater Turku region.

The municipality is unilingually Finnish, with a Swedish minority and e.g. a Swedish comprehensive school.

The famous fetish artist Tom of Finland was born in Kaarina. Kaarina has a well known football team Kaarinan Pojat.

Culture 

Kaarina song 

Urho Sipponen has composed and Emil Vihanto composed his own song for the municipality of Kaarina, which was separately recorded by the Turku City Orchestra and the youth choir of the Southwest Finland Music School in 1980. 

Nationwide Poetry-Kaarina Competition

Since 1994, Kaarina has hosted an annual national Poetry-Kaarina poetry competition , which is open to all first-time poets. The winner will be announced at the Turku International Book Fair and the City of Kaarina will reward the winner by publishing his or her work and paying the author a normal author’s fee. 

Attractions 

Kaarina’s Kuusistonlahti is a significant bird nesting area and a Natura 2000 site.

Attractions in the city of Kaarina include Kuusisto Church, the manor museum and the ruins of Kuusisto Castle , the Pukkila Manor Museum and the Tuorla Planetarium . In addition, there are many manor or rural tourism destinations in the Kaarina area that offer accommodation and catering services. Both the Kuninkaantie leading to Uusimaa near the coast of the Gulf of Finland and the Hämeen Härkätie leading to Häme , which follows the Aura River at the beginning , run through Kaarina .

Of Kaarina’s historical sites , the nationally significant built cultural environments defined by the National Board of Antiquities are the Great Beach Road, the Littoinen Verkatehdas and the Kotimäki residential area in the Kaarina area; In Kuusisto, Bryggman’s villas , Kuusisto church landscape, Kuusisto episcopal castle ruins and Kuusisto manor; and in Piikkiö Piikkiö Church and Parish , Tuorla Agricultural School and Pukkila Manor.

Food culture 

In the 1980s, pastry porridge cooked from mashed potatoes and barley flour and buttermilk were voted Kaarina’s parishes .

Sports 

Kaarina has many sports clubs, including Kaarina Pojat (KaaPo), Kaarina Palloseura (KaaPS), Piikkiö Palloseura (PiPS), Kaarina Nappulat (KaaNa), Kaarina Ura, Piikkiö Karhu and Piikkiö Kehitys.

Ball sports 

Kaarina has two football clubs founded in 1958, Kaarinan Pojat from the center of Kaarina and Kaarinan Reipas from Kausina . Kaarina Sojat has played football for a long time in the second division. The club’s women’s representative team plays in the number one division. In addition, Kaarina Nappulat, a junior football club founded in 1976, operates in Kaarina.

Kaarina Palloseura was founded in 2007. The club’s men’s representative team plays football in the vitos and futsal in the third. The women’s team KaaPS Ladies plays in the hobby series. In addition, the club has a junior academy consisting of young men. The motto of the club is “Fighting!” as well as “To the top!”. The nickname of the club among members and supporters is Pheasants.

Kaarina’s floorball club is the West Coast Sheriffs, who have players ranging from elementary school to the women’s floorball league. The men play in Division II.

In Littoinen , on the border of the municipalities of Kaarina and Lieto , Littoinen Työväen Athletes, founded in 1932, operates . In addition to strong football activities, the club has a volleyball team and a ski division.

Hockey in Kaarina is played by KaKiPo, or Kaarina’s Kiekko-Pojat, whose representative team HCIK (HC Indians Kaarina) plays in the men’s Finland series.

Athletics 

Kaarina Athletes are involved in shooting , skiing , various oriental martial arts , fitness, volleyball , floorball and rowing .
