About Us
The Koprivnica City Museum is a cultural institution registered for the performance of museum activities.
The Museum’s founder is the City of Koprivnica, and its work is supervised by the Founder, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Croatia, the Museum Documentation Center, and national parent museums. The Museum is registered in the Court Register of the Commercial Court in Bjelovar.
The Museum carries out its activities, as defined by the Statute of the Koprivnica City Museum, as a public service based on its annual work plan and program, operating across several locations in Koprivnica and its surroundings.
Organizational Units and Collections
According to its internal organization and operations, the Koprivnica City Museum is divided into three organizational units (departments):
- Administrative and General Affairs Department
- Museum Collections Department
- Technical Services Department
The Administrative and General Affairs Department carries out legal, accounting, and administrative tasks related to the Museum’s operations, as well as joint professional activities concerning: audience development, the design, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, the operation of the specialized museum library, conservation and restoration work, public visibility, marketing and public relations, and the management of secondary and tertiary museum documentation.
Through the work of the Museum Collections Department, the Museum fulfills its core museological functions as a public cultural institution. The collections are managed by curators responsible for collecting museum material, systematizing it within collections and other holdings, creating and administering museum documentation, conducting professional and scientific processing of objects and documentation, conceptualizing and implementing exhibitions, providing public access, and performing other activities in accordance with relevant laws and regulations.
A wide range of scientific disciplines is covered, including archaeology, ethnology, art history, and history, as well as other humanities and natural sciences as needed. The museum collections are categorized by type into the following groups:
- Archaeological Collections

- Historical Collections
- Cultural-Historical Collections
- Art Collections
The Technical Services Department is responsible for technical support to the program activities developed in other organizational units. This includes building maintenance, preventive protection of museum and library materials and documentation, handling and moving collection items, and providing assistance in preparing objects and materials for display or presentation in any form.
Publications
Since its founding, the publishing activity of the Koprivnica City Museum has demonstrated remarkable quality and productivity. This is evident from the fact that even before the Museum’s official establishment, the Proceedings of the Koprivnica City Museum began publication, issuing four volumes between 1946 and 1953.
Building on that foundation, a significant leap occurred with the launch of the Podravina Almanac (Podravski zbornik) in 1975, which has been published continuously to this day — the only regional annual publication of its kind in Croatia. The strong momentum of publishing in the Podravina region at that time is further confirmed by the introduction, in 1977, of the Podravina Almanac Library (Biblioteka Podravskog zbornika), a numbered publishing series.
Together, these two publishing lines have produced around 40 printed editions to date. In addition, every exhibition organized by the Koprivnica City Museum is accompanied by printed materials — leaflets or catalogues — with approximately 30 such publications issued each year.
