Mosque of Pasha Qasim

Hungary

The Downtown Candlemas Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, formerly known as the Mosque of Pasha Qasim is a Roman Catholic church in PécsHungary, which was a mosque in the 16–17th century due to the Ottoman conquest.

The building bears the hallmarks of Ottoman architecture in its plaster decoration and “Ablaq”, alternating rows of dark and light stone on its arches. You can also catch some inscriptions from the Koran on the walls.

The two holy water vessels in the church are former baths belonging to Pécs’ pasha who resided next door.
