The first data on organized health care in Poprad date back to the beginning of the 20th century. The Tatra Hospital in Poprad – Spišská Sobota was opened on December 10, 1911.
In 1918 , the hospital became the property of the Czechoslovak Red Cross. During the period of the pre-Munich republic, it was expanded at a cost of half a million million crowns. Since the end of the war, the state has owned the hospital.
A new polyclinic was opened in 1971 and a hospital in Poprad in 1974 . In addition to the basic departments, new departments were opened, which did not yet exist within the district.
On August 31, 2002 , she was reclassified as a hospital with polyclinic III. type.
Based on Act no. 578/2004 Coll. on Health Care Providers, Healthcare Workers, Professional Organizations in Health Care and on Amendments to Certain Acts, as amended (hereinafter referred to as the Health Care Providers Act), in conjunction with Act no. 513/1991 Coll. The Commercial Code as amended / hereinafter referred to as the Commercial Code /, the business company Nemocnica Poprad, as was established by a decision of the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic as the founder of the establishment of a joint-stock company – a charter of 15.12.2005.
The company was established on 20 February 2006 with the entry into force of the decision on permitting the registration of the joint-stock company Nemocnica Poprad, as in the Commercial Register. In accordance with the provisions of Section 87, Paragraph 3 of the Health Care Providers Act, the company is the legal successor of the state-subsidized organization Nemocnica s poliklinikou Poprad, with its registered office at Banícka 803/28, 058 45 Poprad, IČO: 00 610 836. transformed into a joint-stock company based on the provision of health care pursuant to the provisions of Section 84, Paragraph 1 of the Act on Health Care Providers.
Based on the above and in accordance with the Act on Health Care Providers, the founder of the joint stock company is the state, on its behalf acts the Ministry of Health of the Slovak Republic (hereinafter MH Ministry), which is the founder of the state-subsidized organization Nemocnica s poliklinikou Poprad, IČO: 00 610 836 (Charter No. 1970/1991-A / XVII-1 of 14.06.1991 (Charter – Annex No. 2) as amended on 23.05.2001 under No. M / 2351/2001 (Decision to amend the Charter – Annex No. 3), as amended on 08.12.2005 under No. 31126-2 / 2005-SP (Decision on the amendment of the Memorandum of Association – Annex No. 4).
On the day of the establishment of the joint-stock company, in accordance with the provisions of § 87 paragraph 3 of the Health Care Providers Act, the rights and obligations of the state-subsidized organization arising from legal relations, including unknowns, and including rights and obligations arising from employment relations with employees.
The company is a joint-stock company according to the Commercial Code with specifics and differences according to the Act on Healthcare Providers. In legal relations, it acts as a legal entity in its own name and at its own risk from emerging legal relations. The legal personality of the company on the outside is proved by an extract from the Commercial Register.
