History

The birth certificate of the town of Plopeni bears the date of July 1, 1968, moment from which the village of Stejarul, former Margineanca workers’ colony, becomes a memory. The oldest testimonies of the inhabitation of these lands are pointed out by Constantin Zagorit in 1940, following the archeological excavations from the “Movila” point, on which occasion the traces of a Hallstatian fortress from the V-IV centuries IH, of Thracian-Dacian origin were discovered. , the area known as the “Fetei” fortress, from Valea Humei, after the name of the stream that flows at the northern edge of Gageni hill.

The year 1938 represents an important moment in the history of the locality, materialized by the construction of the “Margineanca” ammunition factory, around which the first housing complexes will be built. The works start in 1940, with the current headquarters of the City Hall, which at the beginning had the status of command of the German councilors.

Located on the right bank of the river Teleajen, currently the town of Plopeni lives and develops in the idea of ​​European integration, alternating between the two symbols, one hundred years old-Forest with roots in Codru Vlasiei and a new one-House of Culture and Church, whose buildings rise above the crown of the old oaks. 
The city of Plopeni is located near some important communication arteries, from the Teleajen and Prahova valleys, which represented old connecting axes between Transylvania and Tara Romaneasca and is crossed by the cultural-tourist routes “Wine Road” and “Salt Road”.

city ​​of Plopeni is located at an average altitude of 232 m, occupies a territory totaling 473 ha of which 150.86 ha is urban. And benefits from a sheltered topoclimate which is characterized by clear, dry, warmer weather, with a relatively long duration of sunshine, with not too harsh winters and hot summers, with a lush climate and vegetation, strong ozonated and unpolluted air, which determined many citizens from large urban areas to come and live in Plopeni.

The locality is located in the vicinity of large urban centers of the country, 75 km from Bucharest, 12 km from Ploiesti, 125 km from Brasov, and compared to the smaller towns around it, 20 km from Valenii de Munte, 20 km from Campina, 8 km from Baicoi and 25 km from Slanic and benefits from an important network of roads.

The location of Plopeni is like a bridgehead, through which you can reach Prahova Valley, Teleajen Valley, Slanic Valley, Ploiesti, Bucharest and Brasov, Muntenia and Moldova, through county roads and the national road DN1, opening to the Bucharest highway -Ploiesti-Brasov. Currently, the Plopeni forest is registered by the Prahova Environmental Protection Agency, as a potential natural reservation with a complex, floristic and landscape character.


Flora and fauna are closely related to vegetation, climate and relief and belong mainly to Central Europe, and the beauty of the landscape is given by the wide platform of the river Teleajen and the hill that guards the city, where the tourist is given a wide horizon, especially north, where the view that is required to be admired in peace, invites you to a short stop.
