AS Põlva Haigla was established in 1995, but the roots of the hospital’s activities date back to 1944. Põlva Hospital became a ward hospital in 1945. In 1963, the hospital was renamed Põlva District Central Hospital, which managed the work of medical institutions throughout the region. The current hospital building was completed in 1981. In 1995, Põlva Hospital was transformed into a public limited company. Over the decades, the hospital has been constantly modernizing and updating all medical technology.
Our hospital has over 20,000 doctor’s visits a year and about 1,500 independent nurses and midwives. Patients in the south-eastern part of Estonia make just under 2,000 hospital visits a year.
The hospital has a primary health center with family doctors and family nurses. The health center employs 7 family doctors and 15 family nurses.
The hospital has internal , surgical , rehabilitation and nursing departments, where we provide emergency medical care , treat internal diseases and perform surgeries.
The midwifery center of Põlva Hospital supports women and families before and during childbirth and after childbirth. We offer independent midwifery services. We treat gynecological diseases and advise on gynecological issues.
We provide different types of rehabilitation and rehabilitation services . We have an independent inpatient nursing department and a well-functioning home nursing. We offer school health care service . Our hospital has a mental health cabinet to support children and young people with psychiatric help.
