Püspökladány is the sixth largest town of Hajdú-Bihar county in North Eastern Hungary with a population of approximately 16,000 people. It is located southwest of Debrecen at the juncture of three regions: SárrétHortobágy and Nagykunság.

It is an important transportation hub at the junction of national highway 4 from Budapest to Záhony, and national highway No. 42 from Romania to Biharkeresztes. The town is served by four different rail lines.

Points of interest 

  • Püspökladány Spa : its tourist attraction is the spa of regional significance (2004) and the natural values ​​of its surroundings. Medicinal waters rivals the Hajdúszoboszló thermal water . Its water was classified as medicinal water in 1987 , effective against chronic arthritis and degenerative spinal and joint lesions. It is used to treat nerve pain, inflammation, muscle aches, chronic skin conditions, and certain types of vasoconstriction.

Due to the endowments of the city, it is favorable for anglers, hunters, those who like carting and even horseback riding.

  • Among the natural values, the Experimental Station of the Forestry Research Institute and the Wolf Island Arboretum , which was founded in 1924 primarily for research on afforestation of saline soils, are noteworthy. A unique natural attraction is the saline forest.

  • The most notable attraction of the Ágota-puszta nature reserve belonging to the city is the renovated monumental wooden bridge crossing the Hortobágy-Berettyó canal.

  • Construction of the radar station began in 1975 by the Air Traffic and Airport Directorate (LRI) 4 km northwest of Püspökladány. Long – range radar 1980 . has been serving civil aviation continuously since 25 April .
