The Technical University of Gabrovo is a state university in GabrovoBulgaria, founded in 1964.

Faculties

The idea of ​​creating a university in the town of Gabrovo, the predecessor of today’s Technical University, dates back to the 1840s. It was formulated by the Bulgarian educator and scientist Vasil Evstatiev Aprilov and his colleague Nikola Stoev (Stefanov) Palauzov, both from Gabrovo. On July 30, 1964, the Presidium of the National Assembly issued Decree №395 for the opening in the city of the Higher Institute of General Technical Correspondence (VOTZI).

The first academic year 1964/65 The institute started with 1327 part-time students admitted to study in higher technical educational institutions in the country. In VOTZI-Gabrovo they study during the first 3 years of their studies, and then continue and complete their higher education where they are accepted. By Order № 177 of the Council of Ministers in the academic year 1965/66 of VOTZI-Gabrovo provided its own quota for admission and training of students who begin and complete their higher education in it and assigned training to part-time students in the specialties “Technology of mechanical engineering ”and“ Electrical machines and apparatus ”. Part-time students from the 4th, 5th and 6th year also study in these specialties until the end of their education, regardless of where they are initially admitted and enrolled.

By Order of the Council of Ministers № 225 of July 18, 1967, two new specialties were opened at the Gabrovo Higher General Technical Institute – “Semiconductor and Industrial Electronics” and “Mechanical Instrument Making” with admission of 60 full- time students. On September 29, 1972, by a Decree of the State Council of the People’s Republic of Bulgaria, VOTZI-Gabrovo was renamed the Higher Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (VMEI).

The Institute is staffed with habilitated lecturers mainly from the Sofia Technical Higher Schools. Decisive steps are being taken to recruit young teachers and full-time assistants. Many of them go on to postgraduate studies and acquire relevant scientific degrees and titles. In the early 70s of the twentieth century VMEI-Gabrovo already has its habilitated lecturers, whose number is constantly increasing.

Meanwhile, the problem of material and technical and educational base is solved. By the mid-70s of the twentieth century VMEI-Gabrovo has 4 comfortable and spacious buildings, well-equipped classrooms, laboratories, workshops and other premises. Four student dormitories are being built, two more educational buildings are appearing. The university library is created, for which a modern and functional building is currently built. There is also a well-furnished printing base and its own publishing house “Vasil Aprilov”. From the street. “Svishtovska” to “Varovnik” in “Bazhdar” outlines the university area of modern, with European appearance Technical University of Gabrovo By decision of the National Assembly of the Republic of Bulgaria from July 1995 TU-Gabrovo the status of Technical University.

In early 2004, the University received a certificate of compliance of the quality management system with the ISO 9001: 2000 standard in higher education, postgraduate qualification and research, issued by the German Society for Certification of Management Systems ( DQS GmbH ) and the IQNet DQS International Certification Network .

The training at the Technical University of Gabrovo is carried out in three faculties under programs for the educational qualification degrees bachelor and master and for educational and scientific degree doctor , as well as under programs for qualification and postgraduate specialization in the system of continuing education.

The University has an average of 5,400 undergraduate and master’s degrees per year, including international students from Ukraine, Macedonia, Turkey, Syria, Albania, Moldova and Bangladesh. The learning process is carried out according to curricula adapted to European educational standards. Doctoral students in accredited specialties are prepared annually at the Technical University of Gabrovo.
