When traveling from Delnice towards Prežid and Čabar, places at the far south of Croatia, on the Croatian-Slovenian border, on the boundary of the Čabar region and on the limes of the Roman Empire, you pass through areas whose beauty is almost unreal.
Not only because of the picturesque black forests, the jagged mountain outlines, the freshness of all plant and heavenly colors on the dark backdrop, in every season, the change between dense, semi-dark proximities and airy, blue distances, the presence of cyclamen and mushrooms, but also because the winding road passes through a sparsely populated area. Kilometers and kilometers of forest are still an example of a nearly medieval world, where distance existed and was therefore overcome with time.
Today, the precious reserves of time seem to evaporate with the elimination of distances. In these black forests, time still rests, curled up as in a long sleep.

Cultural Landmarks
The center of Čabar is dominated by the Kaštel (manor) of Petar Zrinski from 1651. Since then, parts of the wall, towers, and vaulted ceilings on the ground floor of the central building have been preserved. Information about visiting can be obtained at the information center.
Palčeva Šiša is the estate house of the Čop family from 1856, located in the center of the village of Plešce. Visitors can view an ethnographic collection, the attic, and the vaulted cellars of the former wine trading company. The house also includes an outbuilding, the only fully stone building in the valley.
Here, you can still obtain locally ground flour.
During your visit, the owner can demonstrate the entire process required to saw planks from a log.
Local Heritage Museum and Collection – Prezid
The local heritage collection in Prežid includes archaeological and ethnographic items. It features remnants of the old wooden water supply system of Prežid, numerous fragments of pottery from the Haltashatsko-Japod culture, and many artifacts from the history of Prežid. The museum also displays steam engines that were essential for the town’s development in the first half of the 20th century.
Claustra Alpium Iuliarum
Experts claim that this site can be compared to other similar destinations in Europe, such as the German Limes or Hadrian’s Wall in England, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. UNESCO cites it as the most important Roman monument in Britain. The German Limes is a border wall 550 km long, passing through four German federal states. The well-known Roman fortification wall, traces of which can still be found outside settlements, was part of the military defense system Claustra Alpium Iuliarum.
Sveta Gora is located near the village of Mali Lug. A paved road leads to the summit, which rises 975 meters high, and there are also walking trails leading from Plešci, Zamost, Mali Lug, and Tršće. At the top of Sveta Gora stands the sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, which historical records place between 1404 and 1470.
