Clermont-Ferrand Cathedral, or at greater length the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption of Clermont-Ferrand, is a Gothic cathedral and French national monument located in the town of Clermont-Ferrand in the Auvergne. It is the seat of the Archbishops of Clermont.
It is built entirely in black lava stone, which makes it highly distinctive, and visible from a great distance. Its twin spires are 96.1 metres tall, and tower above the town’s rooftops. It has been listed since 1862 as a monument historique by the French Ministry of Culture. There are lots of flourishes that are from the medieval era though, like the 13th-century red and blue stained glass windows and marvellous frescos in the crypt, sacristy and ambulatory from between the 12th and 15th centuries.
