The Professional School of Arts of Covilhã was created on September 3, 1992, under the name of Professional School of Arts of Beira Interior – EPABI. Seventy-two days later, the students made their first public presentation. In the local newspaper it was written: “students were expected to tune some notes but, to the general surprise, he made music. Simple, but music.”
At EPABI the Basic Instrument course (level II – equivalent to the 9th year of schooling) and the String and Keyboard and Wind and Percussion Instrumentist courses (level IV – equivalent to the 12th year of schooling) are taught, in the specialties piano, violin, viola d’arco, cello, double bass, guitar, transverse flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba and percussion. This year, it intends to offer its training in professional courses of level IV, with the Professional Course of Technician / a of Organization of Events.
Throughout its existence, in addition to teaching activities – training in the three areas of the training plan – [socio-cultural, scientific and artistic], prestigious performances by EPABI Orchestras and Chamber Music groups stand out on national and international stages. abroad that confirm the institution as a cultural dynamizing agent.
Since its creation, EPABI has trained many students who are now professionals of recognized merit in the national and international music scene. Assuming itself as a training agent in the Cova da Beira Region, EPABI also includes a QUALIFICA CENTER with a path of several years of activity within the scope of the National Education / Training / Qualification System and positions itself as a tool focused on the educational development and qualifications of the country, in general, and the CIM of the Beiras and Serra da Estrela Region, in particular.
