Wine tradition in Most

Viticulture is documented in written documents in the Most region as early as the 13th century. However, it is assumed that the cultivation of vines began here even earlier. This area is rich in southern slopes, which, together with the favorable climate and the amount of rainfall, create the best conditions for growing vines. The royal city of Most received an order from Charles IV. on February 24, 1374 Prague Vineyard Law. Most winemaking flourished at the end of the 16th century, when the vineyard was owned by 80% of its population. Within the region, Mostecans owned half. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long. After the Thirty Years’ War, the wine-growing tradition began to decline, and after the First World War, the vineyards disappeared completely. However, basalt terraces remained after them, which lasted for centuries and thus facilitated the resurrection of viticulture in the Most region.

The Most winery was renewed with co-workers Ing. Ivan Váňa on the former State Farm Most in the village Chrámce in 1967. Thanks to his diligence and passion for wine, the winery in Most was raised to prominence. He also used the vine as a reclamation crop, and the vineyards thus help to improve the landscape after surface coal mining. Such an example is the Barbora vineyard at the dump of the Hrabák quarry in Čepirozy near Most. In 2001, the company České vinařství Chrámce, sro was established, which is currently one of the largest producers of wine from its own grapes in the wine-growing region of Bohemia. Fortunately, the renewed tradition will not just disappear from Most, because his children continue his work.

Unique in Most

The Czech winery Chrámce boasts one unique feature. This is the production of kosher wine. It has also become the main producer of kosher wines in the Czech Republic. Grapevines for the production of kosher wine are grown on the slopes of the castle mountain, on which stands the castle Hněvín. It is one of the restored vineyards from the Middle Ages. Due to its location, it is called Heavenly Vineyard. Kosher wine and its production are subject to strict measures. In order for the resulting wine to be labeled as kosher, the entire production process must be carried out only by Orthodox Jews under the supervision of a rabbi. Most kosher wines are also known in the world. It is even imported to Israel.
