Džūkste Fairy Tale Museum is located in the building of the former Lancenieku School, which was the residence and workplace of the teacher, writer, fairy tale and legend collector, scholar, gardener and public worker Ansis Lerhis-Puškaitis (1859–1903).
The topics of the museum’s exhibitions are rooted in legends and fairy tales, including the ones collected and written by A. Lerhis-Puškaitis. Just like this remarkable teacher used oral folklore to stimulate the imaginative and thinking capacities of his students, the museum also gives its visitors a chance to not only view the objects exhibited at the museum, but also listen to Džūkste fairy tales and tell their own, watch animation films or puppet theatre plays and participate in them.
Visitors are welcome to listen to Džūkste fairy tales and tell their own, participate in puppet theatre plays and celebrate children’s birthdays. The younger visitors will have a chance to go on a journey with Tom Thumb and Bigeater, where they will search for treasure and trick robbers. Booked excursions are guided by one of the museum’s fairy tale characters.
