Goethe’s Rock was declared a natural monument in 1972 on an area of 2.56 hectares.
A memorial plaque commemorating the poet JW Goethe’s stay is placed in the places leading to the view from the rocks. The natural monument consists of a rock formation 400 m long and 10 m wide. The rock wall reaches a height of 3 to 15 m. In the rock wall there are a number of cracks that divide the rock into several smaller rocks. The rock consists of gray and white quartz and belongs to one of the few quartz ramparts in an otherwise granite body in our country. The rock rises almost vertically upwards and its highest point is Goethův vrch (670 m above sea level), from the top of which there is a very nice view. The area of the natural monument Goethova skalka marked the nature trail Goethova skalka, the route of which leads over the above-mentioned peak and further southeast to the village of Hazlov to the railway station. From Hazlov we can also continue on foot in a southerly direction. On the way we will walk around the castle Ostroh. Then we go to the Lužná crossroads and from there east to Františkovy Lázně. We can also go to the nature trail southeast from the town of Aš through the Cheb forest.
