Hotel Antigo Trovatore is in Calle della Rasse, about a hundred metres from the “San Zaccaria” public transport stop connecting the city centre to the bus station at Piazzale Roma, where airport buses pass, and with the Railway Station. Its strategic position right in the centre of the city (just a couple of minutes from Piazza San Marco and ten minutes from the Rialto area) is ideal for visiting the historic centre with ease, and has the advantage of being able to pop back for a rest or to change clothes during the day, avoiding long and tiring itineraries in this labyrinthine city.
In fact, Hotel Antigo Trovatore is set in an area which has been a hub of Venetian hospitality for centuries. Due to its proximity to the Bacino di San Marco (the old city gate and seat of political power) and to the commercial centre (the Rialto), over the years many hotels and inns sprang up around the area to host travelling merchants and pilgrims on their way to the Orient and the Holy Land.
We have recently refurbished the hotel and now have 25 rooms, with all the comfort you would expect of a high quality 3 star hotel. Some rooms have a private terrace with a view of the 15th century facade of the Ducal Palace, while all our guests are welcome to enjoy the hanging gardens, built over the spaces where in the past “ràscie”, or rasse in Venetian dialect, were dyed and sold. These were the woollen textiles which were used to cover gondolas, the felze. The reception is open 24/7 and a buffet breakfast is also provided (free for guests who book directly through the hotel’s website or for digital Venice Pass holders).
Hotel Antigo Trovatore has been run by the same family since the end of the 19th Century, when the head of the family moved to Venice from the Tyrol, bringing with him from Central Europe the principles of high quality service in the hospitality industry.
