The Institute for Black Metallurgy was established in 1974 to support scientific research and technological development for the Steel Plant, as well as to serve the educational needs of the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology.
The Institute for Black Metallurgy is a joint-stock company and a licensed scientific research institution that conducts research and development in technical and technological sciences. Its activities include laboratory and field testing, comprehensive characterization of metallic and non-metallic materials and process equipment, as well as the production of special steels and alloys in the form of castings and semi-finished products intended for further processing by forging and rolling.
The Institute performs specialized testing of the physico-chemical properties and characterization of materials and process equipment, providing expert evaluations, arbitration, and professional reports.
Since its founding, the Institute has completed over 300 R&D projects in the fields of metallurgy, energy efficiency, and environmental protection, addressing the needs of its founders, the industry, and its own development. Every year, it delivers multiple expert assessments for businesses in Montenegro and the region in the steel, mining, energy, construction, chemical, and aluminum industries.
The Institute employs several highly regarded experts with top professional and academic qualifications across various disciplines.
It holds a Quality Management System Certificate in accordance with ISO 9001:2015, and an Accreditation Certificate for its testing laboratory according to MEST EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018.
