Ivry-sur-Seine

Ivry-sur-Seine is a commune in the Val-de-Marne department in the southeastern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 5.3 km (3.3 mi) from the center of Paris.

Paris’s main Asian district, the Quartier Asiatique in the 13th arrondissement, borders the commune and now extends into the northern parts of Ivry. Asian commercial activity, especially Chinese and Vietnamese, has greatly increased in Ivry-sur-Seine during the past two decades. The commune contains one of the highest concentrations of Vietnamese in France, who began settling in the city in the late 1970s after the Vietnam War.

Economy

Fnac has its head office in the commune. The head office moved there in 2008. E.Leclerc’s head office is in the commune.

Health

Ivry has the Charles-Foix hospital , which belongs to the public hospital sector ( AP-HP ), and which specializes in geriatrics .

A municipal health center, created by the municipal council in 1899, is today an important place for ambulatory care. Extension work is underway in 2018.

Every year since September 1993, the artists’ workshops in Ivry have opened their doors for 3 days of events: exhibitions, concerts, demonstrations, guided tours… In 2014, they take part in the Nuit blanche, in association with Paris.

  • The Hangar, inaugurated on November 10, 2007, a concert hall dedicated to urban music  ; the Hangar includes the Tremplin, a room opened in 1988 , and dedicated to new musical forms.
  • The Saint-Just room hosts concerts from various associations, including those, once a month, by Jazz’Ivry .
  • Les Amis des orgues d’Ivry, an association created in 2011, aims to showcase the five organs installed in the churches of the city.

Plastic arts 

  • The Fernand Léger gallery, a municipal gallery whose missions are, in particular, the programming of exhibitions and artistic training through workshops.
  • Le Crédac , contemporary art center, located at the Manufacture des œillets.
  • Le Hublot, “An art window open to the city …” (originally Le Hublot was called La Window-expo), one of the smallest exhibition venues in France which, every week for fifteen years, allows an artist to present a work.
  • Several dozen works of art are integrated into the urban space of Ivry-sur-Seine.
  • Every year, on the third weekend of September, various Ivryian artists’ associations organize “open doors” days for workshops to the public as well as exhibitions in municipal halls (Espace Robespierre).

Transport

Ivry-sur-Seine is served by two railway stations on the Paris Métro Line 7: Pierre et Marie Curie and Mairie d’Ivry.

The east of the commune is served by Ivry-sur-Seine station on Paris RER line C with stops at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France and the city centre.

Orly Airport is located to the south of Ivry-sur-Seine.
