“Jovan Dučić” High School is an educational institution located in Trebinje, in the Republic of Srpska. It is named after the famous Serbian writer, poet and diplomat Jovan Dučić.

History

The school started working in the school year 1921/22. years. In 1938, the poet Jovan Dučić and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Milan Stojadinović laid the foundation stone for this building, which was built only thirty years later. The high school started working in the building of the Trade School. In 1935, he moved to another building in the Old Town of Kastel, which was ceded by the Ministry of the Army. In that building, which now houses the Museum of Herzegovina, the gymnasium was attended by 40 generations.

From 1960 to 1962, the Gymnasium was housed in today’s Diocesan Home. In 1964, a new school center was built, where all the high schools in the city are located today.

Since 1991, it has been functioning as an independent high school.

Name

The high school is named after the famous Serbian writer, poet and diplomat Jovan Dučić. This poet was born in Trebinje. He spent his life in many European countries, so that after his death his last wish would be fulfilled – to be buried in his homeland, on the hill Crkvina above Trebinje.

School today

Today, classes are held in 8 classrooms, as well as in the cabinets for informatics, physics, the cabinet for chemistry and biology, and in one multimedia classroom. The school has a solidly arranged and equipped library. He shares a gym with the High School Center. Today, the gymnasium is attended by slightly more than 400 students.

School board

The supreme governing body of the school is the School Board, which has 7 members – two from the school staff, the school’s founder, parents and one member from the local community. The term of office of the School Board is four years. Current school board in convocation:
