Liminka is a municipality in the Northern Ostrobothnia region, in the province of Oulu, in Finland. Liminka is located about 25 kilometres (16 mi) south of Oulu.
The municipality has a population of 10,241 and covers an area of 651.71 square kilometres of which 14.54 km2 is water. The population density is 16.07 inhabitants per square kilometre. The neighbouring municipalities are Kempele, Lumijoki, Muhos, Oulunsalo, Siikajoki, Siikalatva, Tyrnävä, Vaala and Ala-Temmes.
Transportation
The church village of Liminga and the villages of Hirvineva, Ketunmaa, Tikkaperä and Tupos are located along the Ostrobothnian Railway . In the past, rail traffic has been part of the everyday life of the people of Liminka, but today Liminga railway station does not have ticket sales or passenger or freight traffic. Previously, Liminka was operated by Koskilinjat Oy , now O Lim Travel operates in Liminga
Liminka is located at the intersection of highways: Highways 4 and 8 intersect at Haaransilla . The Nelostie, built as a motorway on the section between Liminga and Oulu, now bypasses the church village of Liminga farther away, and traffic on the regional road 847, known as the old quadruple , has calmed down considerably. The road camera of the Road Administration is located at the intersection of Haaransilla.
Education
There are two unified primary schools in Liminga. Liminganlahti Unified School operates in a church village, which administratively includes small schools, Ketunmaa School , Lakeuden School and Rantakylä School . Tupos School operates in the Tupos agglomeration. In addition, Liminga High School operates in the church village . In addition to Liminga, the Liminga Regional Music College operates in the Lumijoki , Rantsila and Tyrnävä areas. Liminga Education Center acts as a child welfare institution, providing basic and vocational education and family home activities for young people. Kylliälä School operates in connection with the training center.
Lakeude Citizens’ College operates mainly on school premises, offering courses mainly during the winter season. The Liminga Art School, run by the Liminga Folk High School, founded in 1892, provides training for visual artists, cartoonists and writers, among others. The Liminga unit of the Oulu Region Vocational College organizes security education. The Luovin Liminga Vocational College organizes training at Liminga’s Kramsunkuja and Lännentie offices in the fields of horticulture and tourism, as well as in the fields of automotive, machinery, wood and upholstery technology.
