The present-day company METKOVIĆ LLC for Water Supply and Wastewater Drainage is the legal successor of the Public Utility Institution METKOVIĆ, founded in 1956.
In 1962, the company VODOVOD METKOVIĆ – under construction merged with it, with the aim of developing a water supply and sewage network for the area of the Municipality of Metković. In accordance with legal requirements, the company underwent several status changes during its existence. In 1995, it was transformed into a limited liability company owned by the City of Metković, while always maintaining water supply and drainage as its primary business activity.
The most recent status change occurred in 2011, when METKOVIĆ LLC separated communal activities from its operations and registered water collection, treatment, and supply as its sole activity. METKOVIĆ LLC distributes natural water—after disinfection—from the Doljani spring in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which supplies the City of Metković, with the exception of the settlements Prud and Vid, which are supplied by the Prud spring. Water from these springs is also distributed to the municipalities of Zažablje and Kula Norinska.
In the future, our goal is to expand the water supply and sewage network and manage wastewater disposal through a sewage collector and wastewater treatment plant located in DUVRAT-METKOVIĆ.
Metković Water Supply System
The Metković Water Supply System is fed by two water sources: the Doljani spring (located in Bosnia and Herzegovina) and the Prud spring. The Doljani intake (a karst spring) has been in continuous use since 1965, with a source capacity of 212 liters per second.
Water from the Doljani spring is transported via a main pipeline made of ductile cast iron with a nominal diameter of DN 350 mm, over a length of 2,710.00 meters, to the Metković 1 reservoir, which has a capacity of 2,000.00 m³ and is situated at an elevation of 83.0 meters above sea level.
From the Metković 1 reservoir, water flows by gravity to the Metković 2 reservoir, which has a capacity of 1,000.00 m³ and is located at 55.0 meters above sea level.
The Metković Water Supply System also includes local water supply subsystems in the following settlements: Dubravica, Glušci, Prud, Vid, and Krvavac 2.
The settlements of Prud, Vid, and Krvavac 2 are supplied with water from the Prud spring, which is part of the NPKLM regional water supply system, but are included in our distribution system since these areas fall under our supply network.
For the neighboring Municipality of Zažablje, our system supplies water via the Bijeli Vir reservoir, which is integrated into our supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system.
