Are an important fortified settlement from the Great Moravian period and are located about 3 km southeast of the village Mikulčice. With an area of about 10 hectares, they represent the largest Slavic archaeological site in the Czech Republic. The site is protected as a national cultural monument. The Mikulčice fortified settlement belonged to the important power and spiritual centers of the Great Moravian Empire. The foundations of a noble palace, twelve churches, three bridges and a burial ground with over 2,500 graves were found in the area surrounded by fortifications (ramparts).

In the museum we can see not only objects of daily use (ceramics, iron forgings, stone objects), but also products of handicrafts. The local metalworkers and jewelers made them from iron, bronze, silver or gold. The lavish parts of the generous equipment – swords, spurs as well as jewelry – earrings, buttons, rings – are masterpieces of early medieval arts and crafts. The wooden finds are especially unique, which are not normally preserved in our environment. These finds, including wooden boats – monoxyls, were discovered during research into extinct riverbeds. The foundations of twelve discovered stone buildings – churches, and one princely palace from the 9th century are marked on the walking tour around the fort. An important center of power in the time of Great Moravia – the first state unit of the Western Slavs.
