The beginnings of the castle date back to the second half of the 10th century and are associated with the creation of a fortified settlement, which occupied practically the entire area of today’s Old Town.
The castle served as the seat of the castellans, later lordship officials and the lords themselves.
After the Thirty Years’ War, it became the property of the city and was largely abandoned. In the middle of the 18th century, the whole building was rebuilt into a barracks and then served the army until 1953. After the army left the castle, a textile warehouse was located here until 1972.
At present, the building houses the Museum of the Mladá Boleslav Region.
