The history of the Moriggia Pelascini Hospital stems from the charity of the young Sister Fede Passoni, who in the summer of 1899 had recently made the dressing among the Adorers of the SS. Sacramento when he arrived in Gravedona to assist Mrs. Maria Rossi, wife of Mr. Aggio Mattone, who had been suffering for some time. It was the discreet presence and generosity of Sister Fede that suggested to Mr. Aggio Mattone the idea of making his home available to the Sisters, so that they could assist, with the same love, the other sick and elderly people of Gravedona.
Mr. Aggio was interested in Father Spinelli who considered this proposal positively and finally, on February 14, 1900, the notarial deed was signed with which the Adorers bought the property from Mr. Aggio Mattone Onorato for 1,500 lire, starting the treatment of the sick and elderly people from the small San Giuseppe hospital.
The Nun who assisted Mrs. Moriggia Pelascini during her last illness left the Casa San Giuseppe in 1928. What had happened in 1899 was then repeated; Mrs. Moriggia decided to give a more comfortable environment to the sick Gravedonesi.
Although it was not a hospital, the Casa Moriggia Pelascini actually had its functions in those years, due to the continuous presence of doctors who carried out their full-time activities and the particular location of the structure, unique on the western shore of the lake. Official recognition came with a resolution of the Lombardy Regional Council in 1974, and the Casa Moriggia Pelascini became the General Hospital of the Area.
