Polytechnic Institute of Guarda

The Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (IPG) is a higher education institution governed by public law, at the service of society, oriented towards the production and dissemination of knowledge, creation and transmission of culture and knowledge of a professional nature, science, technology and of the arts, through the articulation of study, teaching, guided research and experimental development.
Created in 1980, the IPG’s mission is to train highly qualified professionals, with an entrepreneurial spirit and solid humanist bases, and to contribute to cultural, social and economic development through quality training services, supported by relevant academic programs with an educational model based on Skills. The training offer is comprehensive and multidisciplinary, with courses in multiple areas of knowledge, to which are associated several postgraduate and specialization courses

Defined as a center for mediation of knowledge and innovation that seeks the quality and rigor of training. A practice of continuous improvement has been a permanent concern of this Institute, which seeks to ensure the quality of training and services provided, as well as the satisfaction of the academic community and the smooth functioning of the entire institution. It also develops activities in the areas of research, transfer of scientific and technological knowledge, provision of services to the community, services to support development and cooperation in the areas of education, culture and technology. In this way, the IPG plays a decisive role in the qualification of human resources in different areas of knowledge, in its competence, as well as in the economic, social, cultural and scientific aspects.

In this context, the IPG intends to be recognized as an essential entity for regional development, in which the professionals trained at the institution are distinguished by their professional competence, by their sense of solidarity, by their ability to serve responsible and ethical work, society that generates knowledge and a cultural presence that contributes to the solution of regional problems, in a global context.

Campus Services

The IPG is composed in its Institutional dimension by a Campus, where it integrates two Schools (ESTG and ESECD) by the Building of the central services, the Central library, the swimming pool, playground and building of the Academic association of Guarda. Outside the campus, the Escola Superior de Saúde and the Escola Superior de Turismo e Hotelaria, located in Seia, and facilities in common use such as student residences (2 female and 2 male), canteen II, Sports Pavilion and Auditorium Soeiro Viegas.
The campus occupies a total implantation area of ​​141,287 m2, with gardens and an air of leisure and sport. The Central building includes the services of the Presidency, Interior Development Unit (UDI / IPG), Academic Services, Accounting and Human Resources, Treasury, Computer Center (CI / IPG), Information and Communication Office (GIC / IPG) and graphic arts service, Mobility and Cooperation Office (GMC / IPG), Internships and Professional Departments Office (GESP / IPG), Culture and Sport Training Office, Technical Maintenance Office (GIME / IPG), the Student Ombudsman and the Quality Office (GAQ / IPG), Cantina I and a technical area (heating and repairs) and medical post.

Localization

The IPG is located in the city of Guarda, in the central region of Portugal, close to the border with Spain and well equipped with accessibility to the cities of Porto, Lisbon, Coimbra, Salamanca and Madrid.

Guarda is a city with high urban and environmental quality, endowed with exceptional cultural, commercial and tourist structures, combined with its health services, higher education and business activity. Cultural activities, the relationship with the mountain and the border bring multiculturalism and a great diversity of environments, landscapes and activities to be carried out.

Being a medium-sized city, it has great facilities for traveling and access to services and equipment, enhancing an intense academic life, entertainment, sport and socialization.
