For visitors who like the work of Josef Váchal, but also for those who would like to get acquainted with it, we recommend a visit to Portmonea – Josef Váchal Museum. You can find it at T. Nováková Street No. 75. Its history begins in 1920, when Josef Portman, an official, private printer and art lover, invited his friend, painter, graphic artist, writer and mystic Josef Váchal to Litomyšl. Portman asked Váchal to decorate the ceilings and walls in two rooms of his house. You will not forget a visit to Portmonea opened thanks to the Paseka publishing house in 1993. When visiting it, you can enjoy the brightly colored paintings of the walls complemented by original furniture, where at first glance the disparate figures of devils, goblins and ghosts alternate with classic Christian motifs or references to Hinduism and other oriental teachings.
