Public Utility Housing Company Senta

Water Supply

The water supply of the city of Senta is provided from 9 wells located at two water sources.

The depth of the wells ranges between 90 to 100 meters, and their maximum capacity is about 96 l/sec. Water extraction is carried out using EMU-WILO pumps, controlled by the most modern DANFOSS type computer. Annually, about 1.3 million cubic meters of drinking water is extracted and supplied to the citizens.

Water Treatment

At the water sources, water is not purified; only continuous disinfection is carried out using gas chlorine through a chlorine dosing device. The quality of drinking water is regularly monitored, and microbiological and chemical analyses are conducted at the accredited laboratory of the Institute for Public Health Kikinda. From the aspect of microbiological safety, the drinking water meets the quality standards prescribed by legal regulations. However, in terms of chemical composition, it does not comply because some parameters exceed the maximum allowable concentration (MAC). These parameters include: color, oxidizability, arsenic levels, and, in some samples, iron and ammonia. Due to the alignment of legal regulations with EU standards, a new Regulation on the hygienic safety of drinking water was adopted in 1998, which reduced the MAC for some parameters. The aquifer has a specific chemical composition, and without water purification, the prescribed chemical quality cannot be met.

Water Supply Network

The length of the water supply network in Senta is approximately 99 km, with around 98% of the population connected to it. The water supply system is outdated, and some of the pipes are over 60 years old. There is still a micro-water system under private supervision that supplies about 300 households.

The company’s activities include monitoring and controlling the water supply network up to the consumer’s water meter, constructing new pipelines and connections, maintaining public utility manholes, repairing faults, and performing repairs on the water supply system. It also involves maintaining public fountains and the main water installations of residential buildings.

For emergency interventions, there is a duty service that addresses faults reported through the dispatcher.

Market and Fairground Maintenance

Among the activities of our company is the management of the city market on Kasapska Street, which consists of a green market, a commodity market, and a dairy market, as well as the fairgrounds (commodity and livestock fairs). This activity includes the maintenance and cleaning of surfaces, buildings, devices, and infrastructure within the market and fairgrounds area, collection of daily market fees, and the signing of annual contracts for the use of market stalls and sales spaces. At the green market, agricultural producers sell agricultural food products and flowers, while at the commodity market, registered traders sell new or used goods. Next to the green market, there is a space for selling handcrafted products (slippers, clothing, plastics, etc.) sold by registered artisans. The dairy market building sells milk, dairy products, eggs, and fresh chicken meat. The market operates every day, with hours from 5:00 AM to 8:00 PM during the summer period and from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM during the winter. A fair is held on the fairgrounds every month, on the first weekend of the month, and during December, the sale of Christmas trees is organized. In agreement with the public utility company, other mass events can also be held on the fairgrounds (dog shows, motorcycle days, sheep shearing competitions, circus performances, etc.).

Waste Collection and Disposal

In the municipality of Senta, household waste collection is carried out according to a regular weekly or monthly schedule using special vehicles. During certain periods, we also collect construction debris and bulky waste. Our activities also include the disposal of municipal waste and the maintenance of the city landfill, which is located south of the city. The landfill is not designed to accept hazardous waste of any kind but is intended solely for municipal waste (household, garden, office waste, construction debris, industrial and craft waste, old furniture parts, and similar items). Since 2012, selective waste collection has been implemented. The city currently has 32 recycling islands, which contain containers marked with specific signs. We kindly ask our citizens not to damage these containers and to only dispose of the waste that they are designated for. By doing so, we will contribute to the preservation of cleanliness in our environment. Success can only be achieved through our joint efforts.

Maintenance of Green Spaces

The maintenance of greenery on public spaces is carried out by the Public Utility Company (JKSP) according to an established annual program approved by the local government. The unit responsible for these tasks also accepts gardening work for other clients. Our tasks include arranging flowerbeds, maintaining lawns, hedges, and trees, as well as providing chemical plant protection on public green areas and their cleaning. The work on public greenery is most intensive in the city center and along major roads, while maintenance on other green spaces is carried out occasionally (such as in the People’s Park, the area around the railway station, and the surroundings of residential blocks).

Maintenance of Public Areas

Public areas (sidewalks, parking lots, roads, and bicycle lanes) are cleaned according to the approved annual work program by the local government. The work unit can also perform such and similar tasks for other clients. As part of the work program, public areas are cleaned manually with brooms, scattered waste is collected, street trash bins are emptied, dirt is removed from curbs, and in winter, snow is cleared, and measures to prevent slipperiness are taken. These areas are maintained even on weekends and holidays.
