Radevic Estate Wines

One of the world’s oldest viticulture regions, wine production in Montenegro can be traced back to the Third Crusade in the late 12th Century..

Beginning with the Ancient Greeks, wine cultivation continued throughout the Roman Empire into the Middle Ages. Religious fervor restricted wine production for the next few centuries with the rise of the Ottoman Empire, but then slowly reorganized after its collapse in the late 1800’s. Surviving Kings and Dictators and later, communist regimes of the Balkan States, today Radevic Estate is single-handedly championing the renaissance of Montenegro’s wine community.

Radevic Estate is located just miles from the Adriatic Sea, in the town of Rogami sitting above the Zeta River

Having its roots in tradition, Radevic Estate is linked to Duklija, the old Roman city ruins, located just 5 minutes away from the vineyard. South-facing at an altitude of 60 meters (200 feet), our unique geography, ideal microclimate, and diverse soils provide a perfect environment for producing world-class wines. At the crossroads of tradition and modern-day wine practices, we continue to honor the work of the generations who came before us, paving the path for our family to create wines that grow in harmony with the land.

From Grapes to Glass

Since our current humble beginnings in 2007, we removed pebbles, stones and boulders, preparing the land for new vines and a state-of the-art winery, and our home, laying the foundation for generations to follow. With continued respect for our ancestral sustainable approach in the vineyards and in the winery, we judiciously adopt and implement new world technology ensuring our winemaking delivers the very best grape-to-glass experience. Our unique geographical location just a few short miles from the Adriatic Sea, pocketed by mile-high mountains and blessed with abundant sunshine, provides us a growing season of long, warm sun-drenched days and crisp cool nights. Like most European wine regions, as summer fades and fall arrives we keep an eye to the heavens for Mother Nature’s signal of the pending Harvest. While technology’s tools of the trade teach us much, it is the old-world “fruit on the wine” that dictates the timing to pick our grapes for ideal ripeness.

In the vineyard, we restrict fruit growth to one cluster per vine, a costly approach, but one that we feel is necessary to allow for maximum flavor potential. Our hand-picked fruit is then rushed to the winery where meticulous de-stemming of individual bunches, takes place prior to fermentation.

Wines

In the 12th century Frederick Barbarossa on the way to the Holy Land with his armada, camped near the ruins close to our current location. He remarked” We were served figs, pomegranates, and good wine”. That same distinctive terroir where mountains, continental and marine climates collide that existed hundreds of years earlier continues today at Radevic Estate to produce wines of extraordinary character.
