Savonlinnan normaalikoulu was a training school for basic education grades 1–9 belonging to the University of Eastern Finland . Savonlinna Normal School was located on the Savonlinna campus in the Heikinpohja district. The school ceased operations in the spring of 2018 after the University of Eastern Finland moved its teacher training department to Joensuu . In its place, the Heikinpohja office of Talvisalo School was established on the former premises of the teacher school department. 

The school’s focus areas were skills, arts and communication education, and pre-school education. The school was also tasked with applying and producing new pedagogical knowledge through experimentation, research and development, and passing this knowledge on to trainees. In addition, the school’s task was to develop the overall quality of teaching and learning in cooperation with the university.
