Tamiš Research and Devalopment Institute, Ltd.

The Research and Development Institute “Tamiš” has a tradition of 68 years, during which it has changed its status and organizational form several times. In December 1994, the Institute was first registered in the register of scientific research organizations of the Ministry of Science.

Due to natural attrition and the transition of several PhDs to private breeding and chemical companies, the Institute lost the conditions necessary to maintain accreditation. By the decision of the Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection, on January 1, 2007, the Tamiš Institute lost its status as a scientific research organization. Fifteen years after losing the status of a scientific research organization, through strong efforts and engagement from management, human, and material resources, the Institute was re-accredited as a scientific research organization in 2022 and now operates under the name RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE TAMIŠ LLC Pančevo within the Ministry of Science, Technological Development, and Innovation of the Republic of Serbia. The Institute is accredited in the field of bioengineering sciences, specifically in agriculture. Research is conducted in several fields, but the main focus is on research in the fields of agroecology and regenerative agriculture, herbology, phytopathology, entomology, nematology, and seed production.

The Institute belongs to the unique scientific and educational system of Europe and places a strong emphasis on science, research, and development. We pay significant attention to the development of scientific staff, encouraging the professional development of young researchers and their advancement in science. Scientific research at the Institute is conducted in the Institute’s live laboratory, equipped with all the necessary infrastructure and machinery for quality testing, as well as in the “Tamiš Agrolab” laboratory. The “Tamiš Agrolab” laboratory is accredited, and its operations are aligned with the requirements of the SRPS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard. The laboratory conducts agrochemical soil testing, molecular detection methods for phytopathogenic and phytoparasitic microorganisms, as well as seed quality testing. On the other hand, in the live laboratory of the Institute, experiments on regenerative agriculture, agrotechnical practices, cultivar testing, and pesticide trials are carried out.

Vision

The Research and Development Institute “Tamiš” strives for excellence and multidisciplinarity in science, dynamic research activity, strengthening scientific collaboration at both domestic and international levels, integrating the Institute into educational, economic, and social activities, engaging in international organizations, and fostering a lively and open scientific debate.

Mission

The mission of the “Tamiš” Institute stems from the vision of its further development, which is the continuous improvement of the quality of scientific research work, education, and staff training. By applying and developing multidisciplinarity and excellence in science, the Institute contributes to increasing the capacity and resources of society to better face complex challenges and transformations, particularly in the fields of food and agriculture.

The most significant achievements of the Institute include decades-long experimental trials, such as:

  • The NPK trial, established in 1965, which monitors the impact of mineral nutrition on crop yields as well as soil properties;
  • The trial with different tillage systems, established in 2008, which involves testing the impact of four soil tillage systems (conventional tillage with plowing, mulch tillage, Strip Till, and No Till) on crop productivity and soil properties. This trial aligns with scientific trends, specifically the goals of sustainable agriculture and measures for mitigating climate change;
  • The establishment of a certified organic demonstration field in 2008, which marked the beginning of scientific research in the organic production system;
  • Research trials are also conducted in fruit growing with modern apple (1.5 ha) and peach (1.4 ha) orchards, donated to the Institute by the Government of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina in 2011. After planting and fully equipping the orchards, the GLOBAL GAP standard was introduced. Regarding current research, the methodology for testing the mechanism of action of thinning agents on apple fruits and the physiological response of plants to the applied treatments is in preparation.

The tasks of the Tamiš Institute include:

Scientific and research development

  • Advisory services
  • Forecast and reporting services
  • Conducting agrotechnical, varietal, and pesticide trials
  • Professional and health control of seed production and nursery production
  • Tasks related to plant protection measures programs
  • Control of goods intended for export and issuance of phytocertificates
  • Agrochemical soil analysis
  • Seed quality testing
  • Nematode testing
  • Control of cereals, cereal products, and animal feed
  • Tasks of the regional livestock service

Tamiš Agrolab Laboratory

With the awareness that safety and quality are created in all segments of human activities, we believe that quality control is an integral part of life. With this in mind, the “Tamiš Agrolab” Laboratory, through the establishment and adherence to the laboratory’s quality policy, has aligned its activities with all the requirements of the SRPS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard.
