Valjevo Brewery was founded back in 1860.
The founder of the brewery in Valjevo was a Valjevo merchant, Dimitrije Mitrović. The company was established in 1860 as a craft workshop for the production of wooden barrels and handmade goods. The brewery managed to expand and develop thanks to investments from other merchants as partners. The brewery’s continuous growth allowed it to become a joint-stock company in 1891.
A turning point occurred in 1910 with the introduction of the steam engine, marking the beginning of industrial beer production. Until World War II, the brewery operated as a joint-stock company. After the war, the enterprise became state-owned and later transitioned into social ownership. On April 26, 1947, the company was nationalized, becoming a state-owned enterprise under the name Steam Brewery “Jedinstvo.” In the following years, the brewery increased its capacity, beer production volume, number of employees, and product assortment.
Between 1982 and 1989, the company was integrated into SOUR AIK “Valjevo” and operated under the name AIK “Valjevo.” It was officially known as the Work Organization for the Production of Beer and Non-Alcoholic Beverages “Jedinstvo” Valjevo.
With changes in economic and system legislation, and the enactment of the Enterprise Law in 1990, the brewery changed its organizational structure from a work organization to a socially-owned enterprise under the name “Jedinstvo” p.o. Valjevo. Following amendments to the company’s statute, approved through a referendum on April 5, 1991, the company changed its name to the Socially-Owned Enterprise for the Production of Beer and Non-Alcoholic Beverages “Pivara” Valjevo.
As of September 19, 2000, the company began operating under the new name: DP “Valjevska Pivara” Valjevo.
On January 31, 2011, with the adoption of the Reorganization Plan, the brewery became state-owned.
Since 2019, the company Brauerei Group from Belgrade has been the owner of Valjevska Pivara.
The primary activity of the company is the production of beer and refreshing non-alcoholic beverages.
