Would you like to experience the picturesque nature, the order, peace and quiet of village life in a way we now only know from ancient pictures? You can learn how people lived when there was still no electricity or machines at the open-air museum at Veselý kopec near the East Bohemian town of Hlinsko. A collection of folk buildings dating back to the 19th century has been preserved here thanks to the work of a few enthusiasts and there are currently about thirty buildings here. Plan your visit to coincide with one of the events, when the open-air museum comes alive with the hustle and bustle of activity. In the poetic landscape of the Vysočina Region, you will see not only cottages and cabins, but also unique technical monuments such as an oil plant or tanning equipment. Six weeks before Easter, you can make merry with traditional characters including a chimney-sweep, a man in a straw hat symbolising the coming of the spring, a bear-tamer or group of Turks in the Shrovetide procession, which has been included on the UNESCO list since 2010.
