Vesterkærets Skole is a modern school with a proud history that dates back to 1953. With us, we work for one thing: to help children become as skilled as they can – both academically and socially.

In this way, they learn to meet the world with curiosity, creativity and knowledge. With our approx. 300 students, we are a small primary school with 1-2 classes per. year. It creates closeness and a strong unity and community that we are really proud of. 

We offer a new beautiful multi-purpose hall, where our students can do sports, play games, watch movies and party. In addition, we are really proud to live in Vestbyen. Our students greatly enjoy the benefits of having Vestre Fjordpark, KUNSTEN, sports field, Haraldslund and the harbor right in the backyard. 

The shower is an integral part of the schooling area. This means that in schooling we have a flexible learning environment, which is shared by both the teaching part and the leisure part.

The schooling area is divided into 2 areas. Lille Dussen, which houses the kindergarten class and 1 p.m. is located on the school’s ground floor with direct access to our outdoor areas. Store Dussen for 2 p.m. and 3rd class, which is housed on the 1st floor and thus also has easy access to our outdoor areas. To one side, our schoolyard is designed as an activity and playground with football, basketball and volleyball court, playground, outdoor stage, sandpit, large stones to climb on, bucket windows, etc.

This is also where we ride roller skates , scooters, bicycles and uses our mooncars. On the other hand, we have our green playground with sandpit, campfire site, trees and shrubs as well as football fields. We will continue to work on the play area being developed so that it makes the children want to move.

We believe that we are the best located in the city Dus. We are located close to the fjord. In the immediate vicinity we also find Fjordparken, Egholm, green areas, junk playground and swimming pool. Furthermore, the city bus goes right outside the door, so we can quickly get into the city center.
Dussen’s child numbers fluctuate slightly from year to year, but we have an average of 110 children, which are divided into 2 departments Lille Dussen and Store Dussen. Our allergy department is an integral part of normal Dussen. However, we have a special group room in little Dussen, where the allergy educators have their base. This is also where we service children and parents from. 

We want our indoor physical environment to be utilized as flexibly as possible. Therefore, several of the rooms are common to the two departments. At the moment we have a common morning opening and a common kitchen.
In both departments, work is done with flexible solutions, which can benefit both the teaching part and the leisure part. The school premises must appear so that they radiate a homely atmosphere, where there is always the possibility of changing the premises. The premises must be in a proper condition. Dussen has the opportunity to use the school’s other premises, such as. gyms, woodworking place and other specialist rooms.
