Water Supply and Sewerage LLC Budva

Water Supply and Sewerage LLC Budva was registered as a public company in 1990.

Until 1990, this company was part of the Communal and Housing Organization “Southern Adriatic” Budva, operating as a Basic Organization of Associated Labor. Up until the name change in 2014, the company was known as Public Enterprise “Water Supply and Sewerage” Budva. Due to the Montenegrin Companies Act, the company was re-registered as a limited liability company.

This change was made to improve business conditions and enhance the overall business environment in Montenegro.

The primary activity of the company is supplying the citizens of Budva with drinking water and managing wastewater disposal. The development of Budva’s water supply and sewerage system has generally followed the growing demand for water, urbanization, and economic development of the area.

The drinking water distribution system in the municipality of Budva is classified as a dispersed and complex system. The following areas are supplied with potable water: Buljarica, Petrovac, Reževići, Sveti Stefan, Pržno, Rafailovići, Bečići, Budva, Prijevor, Seoce, Jaz, and part of Lastva Grbaljska. The primary source of drinking water is the Rijeka Reževići spring, with additional supply from the Buljarica spring, which is operational only during the summer season, and the Podgor spring in the Municipality of Cetinje, which is activated when needed. In addition to the main sources, there are local water sources such as Piratac and Loznica, which supply a smaller number of local residents.

Besides the water sources, Budva’s water supply system consists of four main and several smaller reservoirs, over 300 km of primary and secondary pipelines, and 25 hydro-pumping stations. The sewerage system includes the municipal sewer network and eight pumping stations.

Since the summer of 2010, Budva’s Water Supply Company has been connected to the regional water supply system, allowing consumers to access additional water supplies from Lake Skadar (Bolje Sestre spring). This has resolved the long-standing issue of providing regular and continuous water supply to consumers.

Water Quality

The right to drinking water is one of the fundamental human rights, and supplying the population with hygienically safe drinking water is a key prerequisite for good health.

The drinking water distributed to the citizens of Budva is of excellent quality and does not require any pretreatment, except for disinfection, which is a legal requirement. The disinfection process is carried out through a fully automated gas chlorination system, minimizing the possibility of human error.

Water from two rural springs, “Piratac” in Markovići and “Loznica” in Čučuci, is not disinfected and is not recommended for drinking. The residents of these villages have been notified through their local committees, and the relevant services are working to resolve this issue.

Water quality control is conducted according to applicable regulations, which define testing conditions, including the types of analyses, number of samples, and sampling schedule.

There are two levels of water quality control:

  • Daily monitoring performed by the Water Supply Company’s responsible department.
  • Additional testing conducted by an authorized and accredited laboratory in accordance with legal regulations.

Since October 2017, Water Supply and Sewerage LLC Budva has implemented the HACCP system, meeting all requirements related to the production and distribution of water for human consumption.
