Újfehértó is a small town in Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg County, in the Northern Great Plain region of eastern Hungary.

  • The Reformed church was built in 1754 and is a late Baroque monument. As a result of the work of the „rác“ settlers, the church of the Greek Catholic Church was built in 1832. The late Baroque Roman Catholic Church of the Free standing in a row of streets was consecrated in 1812. The Casino on the Main Square was built in 1911 and has been shining in its old splendor since 2000. The proportional, classicist-style Town Hall , completed in 1905, is remarkable . The Local History Collection opened its doors in 1995 , with three permanent and one temporary exhibition. In the courtyard you can see a sculpture park commemorating the famous people of Újfehértó.

Location 

It is located about 16 kilometers south of Nyíregyháza and 35 kilometers north of Debrecen , on the edge of Nyírség towards Hajdúság . Until the eighties of the 19th century, the settlement was surrounded by saline lakes , and then these lakes were drained, in the hope of arable land.

Approach 

By road on the main road 4 and the M3 motorway ; by train on the Szolnok – Debrecen – Nyíregyháza – Záhony railway line , at Újfehértó railway station .
