Laitila

Finland

Laitila is a town and a municipality of Finland. It is located in the Southwest Finland region. The municipality has a population of 8,472 and covers an area of 545.32 square kilometres of which 13.65 km2 is water. Laitila is renowned for its poultry farms and egg festival. The municipality is monolingually Finnish.

Culture

Laitila has a very large number of Iron Age antiquities, the most famous of which are the so-called Kodjalan warrior’s grave . The oldest glass object in Finland, the Roman Drinking Horn, has been found in Laitila’s Soukais. The Untamala Archaeological Information Center, formerly maintained by the National Board of Antiquities, operated in the village of Untamala .

The nationally significant built cultural environments in Laitila , defined by the National Board of Antiquities in 2009, include the Untamala sober village , the Suontaa group village and the Koukkelan Kauppila closed yard peasant house.

Laitila attractions are also hand: stone, every summer the celebration of the egg market , Gustav Sand Sand bust of King Gustavus Chapter Tuvan foreground and Pahojärven piilokirkko .

The films Härmä and The Two-Headed Kotka in the Shadow have been shot partly in Laitila.

Economy

Laitila’s job self- sufficiency was the second highest in Southwest Finland, 104.6 per cent. Laitila’s economic distribution is 50% services, 40% industry and 10% agriculture. There are about 600 companies in Laitila, less than 400 farms. Traditionally, Laitila is known as an egg production and early vegetable center, about 12% of Finnish egg production and 75% of early carrots come from Laitila. The products of the largest companies include windshields, brewery products, ball valves, plastic industry products, agricultural and forestry machinery, sawn timber and the wood processing industry. The service sector has also grown, with about 10,000 square meters of retail space built along Kauppakatu. 

Laitila’s five largest companies in 2008 were: Pilkington Automotive Oy 270 employees (laminated windshields); Naval Oy 170 employees (ball valves); Amitec Oy 120 employees (process and pipe installation); Coreplast Laitila Oy 80 employees (injection molded plastic product and reflectors) and Finnlamex Oy 75 employees (laminated windshields).  Laitilan Wirvoitusjuomatehdas Oy , which had 42 employees in 2011, has also become a significant employer . Interior door manufacturer Mattiovi Oy originated in the village of Leitmäki in Laitila in 1911, and its Laitila factory is located along Highway 8.
