Ikazia trains new doctors

Ikazia is a training hospital for the specialisms Anesthesiology , Gynecology , Surgery (Surgery) , Internal Medicine  and  Gastrointestinal and Liver Diseases . Within the hospital there is an accessible, collegial atmosphere between the specialists and mutual departments.

Ikazia close to home

To provide patients with care close to home, Ikazia has an outpatient clinic in Barendrecht-Carnisselande and an outpatient clinic in Ridderkerk-Slikkerveer .

Ikazia: a Protestant Christian hospital

In the early 1950s, there were calls to establish a Protestant Christian hospital in South Rotterdam. Patients from the South Holland islands could also go there. A foundation was established. Fundraising raised money to build the hospital. The name of the foundation was ‚Inter-Church Action Hospital In Construction‘. From this the name Ikazia originated.

The first patient was admitted in 1965. Section after section opened until its official opening on October 1, 1968. At that date, there were nearly 20,000 members of the Friends of Ikazia Foundation . 

The Ikazia Hospital can still rely on the foundation. This is done for patient-oriented matters that are necessary for the hospital but that cannot be paid from the regular budgets.
