The silver mine is “the sight in Tyrol”, 85% of the silver mined worldwide came from this mine towering in the mountain. Once you have travelled 800 metre down with the mine railway, a breathtaking world awaits you underground. You follow in the footsteps of miners and experience the trials and tribulations they had to endure to mine copper and silver 500 years ago. One of the highlights is the famous Schwaz Water Wheel, which was installed in 1556 to lift the mine water – it was considered a true marvel of technology at the time.
In the summer when it’s hot outside, the mine is a wonderful place to cool down with a constant temperature of 12 degrees Celsius inside the mountain. But the silver mine is also ideal as something for families, couples, groups and clubs to do when the weather is bad, you will definitely keep dry in the mountains. You can enjoy Tyrolean and international delicacies in the adjacent “Knappenkuchl” restaurant after your exciting mining experience.
