The Court of Netherlands

The Hof Van Nederland is part of the Dordrechts Museum. The Dordrechts Museum, Het Hof van Nederland, Dordrecht Regional Archives and Huis Van Gijn are one organization for the art, archives and history of the city of Dordrecht. We show the collection in permanent presentations, temporary exhibitions and in public spaces.

Our mission and vision

We believe that historical awareness enriches people’s lives and makes people understand the present better. That is why we want to introduce a wide audience to some important events in the history of Dordrecht (as a role model of a Dutch city) and their significance for the Netherlands.

How do we want to achieve that?

By telling the story of the oldest city in Holland, which is a model for the rest of the Netherlands, in an interactive and controversial way, based on 6 themes. This creates a good picture of life in the early centuries and development that Dordrecht went through. And it becomes clear that Dordrecht has formed the basis of today’s Netherlands in various areas.

The Court of the Netherlands is a special place where:

  •  the impetus to the creation of the Netherlands really took place;
  •  where visitors go on a journey of discovery;
  •  archaeological finds and objects from the past are shown from the collection of the city of Dordrecht;
  •  the only painting about the Synod hangs;
  •  you attend the first free states meeting;
  • educational activities are organized.
