OSOR – THE LITTLE ETERNAL TOWN
Nestled on the narrow land bridge between the islands of Cres and Lošinj, Osor has a history dating back to the Neolithic era. Founded by the Illyrians, it later became a Roman fortress and a center of Glagolitic culture in medieval Croatia. Under Venetian rule, it gradually lost its former prominence.
Today, Osor is like an open-air museum. Don’t miss:
- Cavata Canal – carved in the west, separating Cres and Lošinj
- Jaz – the historic eastern harbor area
- City walls and Bishop’s Palace
- Cathedral of the Assumption (15th c.) and its 18th c. bell tower
- City Hall (archaeological museum)
- Reliefs of St. Mark’s Lions
- Sculpture Park “Sculpture and Music” featuring works by Meštrović, Kršinić, Rosandić, and Radauš
- Art exhibitions and vibrant summer music events, including the famous Osor Music Evenings since 1976
