Braga Hospital opened its doors in May 2011, with an in-hospital capacity of up to 704 beds. This unit constitutes a Public Business Entity (EPE) integrated in the National Health Service.

Braga Hospital, which provides health care to approximately 1.2 million people in the districts of Braga and Viana do Castelo, has multidisciplinary clinical teams, highly qualified to provide excellent health services, as well as equipment with first-rate technologies. It reconciles, in its facilities, units of medical assistance, research and university education.

Since 2014 it is considered the best hospital in the country, for obtaining the best national classification in Clinical Excellence in the National Health Assessment System (SINAS), developed by the Health Regulatory Entity. Since 2015, it has been winning the first place in the group of best medium / large hospitals in the National Health Service in the “TOP 5 – Hospital Excellence” awards, promoted by IASIST – a multinational hospital benchmarking company .
