The General Hospital of Trikala was established in 1950 with an initial capacity of 60 beds. In 1997 construction of the new building begun which was finally completed and delivered for use in 2006.

The Hospital consists of pathology, pediatrics, obsterics, cardiology, surgical, orthopedic, urological and ophthalmological clinis, 9 operating rooms, 12 intensive care beds, 6 MLS intensive care beds, maternity hospital, dialysis unit, thalassemia unit, blood donation unit, physiotherapy unit, emergency department, medical labs, pathology lab, CT scan, kitchens, morgue and sterillizing materials-tools department.
