General Hospital “Elpis”

The General Hospital “Elpis” is the first general hospital that operated in Athens in 1842. It was, and still is, connected to the development of the medical science in Greece. The excellent training of the doctors and nurses ensure the maximum medical care to the patients, the successful diagnosis and treatment.

The Medical Service of the G.N.A. “ELPIS” aims at providing, promoting and promoting a high level of health services. In addition, its responsibilities are:

  • The training of the staff that staffs the service.
  • The planning and control of the provided health services.
  • The preparation of protocols for the provision and development of the provided medical services by the Management, the sectors and the departments.
  • The organization and promotion of research.
  • The cooperation with the other services of the Hospital for the continuous improvement of the provided health services.
  • The supervision of the on-call and the efficient operation of the hospital beds as well as the scientific supervision of the operation of the Outpatient Clinics, the Emergency and the Surgeries.
  • The planning and the suggestion for the granting of any form of leave to the staff of the Medical Service.
  • The scientific and administrative responsibility for the smooth operation of the departments of the Medical Service.
  • The information and the keeping of patient care records, together with the nursing service.
  • The supervision of the hospital library.
  • The organization, planning and execution of medical operations.

The Medical Service is staffed by specialized and well-trained medical staff and is structured in Sectors, in which there are Departments by specialty, Units, Medical Specialties – Special Units, as well as Intersectoral and other Departments.
