About PPclinic

PPclinic is a private health clinic with departments in Copenhagen, Vejle and Aarhus. Since 2002, we have helped adults, adolescents and children with stress, depression and other mental health problems to get better and get back on track through talk therapy and treatment.

The two Ps in our name stand for psychologist and psychiatrist. The interdisciplinary collaboration between the psychologists and the specialists in psychiatry ensures that we can offer the most effective therapy and treatment based on our clients’ situation and needs. This means that you can be sure that we can help you, regardless of whether your problem is of a minor or more serious nature.

We strive to have a short waiting time , and attach great importance to you feeling safe in the process. We know that mental health problems can feel overwhelming, but our starting point and experience is that with the right help, everyone can get better.

We do not offer standard treatment, but has since 2002 specialized in uncovering what each client needs and offer the treatment that best help possible.

We help also with:

Stress prevention in companies

We advise managers and employees on stress prevention and help companies across the country to prevent stress through organizational efforts, presentations, teaching, leadership sparring and individual processes.

Collaboration with job centers

We collaborate with a number of municipalities on employment-oriented initiatives, where we, among other things, help citizens return to work, make assessments of their ability to work and provide supervision and case sparring to caseworkers.

Psychiatric assessment and treatment of children and adolescents

Our child and adolescent psychiatric team has many years of experience in the assessment and treatment of children and young people with mental health challenges. The team consists of specialists and specialist psychologists in child and adolescent psychiatry, neuropsychologists and specially trained nurses. Our interdisciplinarity makes it possible to adapt the course to the child’s or young person’s needs. Collaboration is a key word for us, and we involve family, school, own doctor or other relevant parties to the necessary extent.

Courses and counseling for young people, parents and professionals

We help young people to create balance in life. The young person learns to face resistance and challenges in a healthy and constructive way, so that he / she gets through what feels difficult – both now and later in life. We also help parents of children and young people who do not thrive. And we advise staff on youth education.

We also write books

At PPclinic, we stay up to date with the latest knowledge and also contribute knowledge and experience from our daily work. We are behind a business PhD. and has written two books on returning well to work after a stress illness report (‘Go to work – from sick leave to collaboration) and on stress and prevention in companies (‘ I will do it tomorrow – from avoidance to stress prevention management ‘), which has also been published in English. In 2020, our third book will be published, which is about the good (working) life. We are writing on it right now and look forward to sharing it with you.

Events

Occasionally we hold go-home meetings and free lectures in our clinics in Gentofte, Vejle and Aarhus. For our latest event for caseworkers, it was sold out in a short time, and many came on the waiting list.

Articles and good advice

We share our knowledge and guides with good advice in articles and blog posts. You can also follow us on Facebook and LinkedIn .

The story behind PPclinic

The year is 2000, when PPclinic’s two directors and founders Jesper Karle and Lars Aakerlund meet at Bispebjerg Hospital’s psychiatric ward, where they both work as specialists. In psychiatry, only those who are really ill are admitted – often with schizophrenia or psychosis. But there are also other inquiries, and in the daily work Jesper Karle and Lars Aakerlund experience several patients who are mentally ill with, for example, depression and anxiety and who therefore have difficulty finding a job. But in the hospital’s psychiatric ward, they are not sick enough to be admitted, and therefore they are sent home again. Jesper Karle and Lars Aakerlund can see that there is a lack of treatment options for the many who live with other degrees of mental health problems than the very severe ones. The two doctors decide

Will go a long way for patients

In December 2002, they open a clinic in Hammerensgade opposite Nyboder in Copenhagen. The name is PPklinik, which at that time stood for psychiatric private clinic. Through conversations and medication, they begin to treat people who are having difficulty and who are experiencing mental health problems, but who are not sick enough for a psychiatric ward in a hospital. The vision is clear: Jesper Karle and Lars Aakerlund will provide the treatment that they themselves want to receive, if one day they should need it themselves. They set a high standard of care in their clinic: patients should not just feel better, they should feel good, and most of all, they should return to a normal life. Jesper Karle and Lars Aakerlund do not believe in the theory that if you have had a depression, you will never get it really well again. They believe that with the right treatment, it may be possible to get through well and return to an active life again. And they are willing to go to great lengths to help their patients get better. As the clinic grows, they will need to hire more. But it is crucial for them that all their employees have the same level of ambition.

The clinic is growing

A few years later, the clinic has grown out of the premises in Hammerensgade and moves to Dronningens Tværgade (still Copenhagen). However, it does not take long before the place also becomes too small, and in 2007 PPclinic moves to Smakkedalen in Gentofte. Three years later, PPclinic occupies the premises on Ørnegårdsvej in Gentofte, where they also have an address today. At the same time, PPclinic is expanding with branches in Jutland. In 2012 they will open a branch in Vejle, and in 2017 they will open a branch in Aarhus.

In 2014, Helle Folden Dybdahl will come to the clinic as a senior and chief psychologist. She falls in love quickly and shows her flair for business psychology. She will be a cornerstone in the clinic’s development towards stress prevention for managers as well as organizational efforts for companies. In 2018, she will be co-owner of PPclinic together with Jesper Karle and Lars Aakerlund.

Today, PPclinic employs more than 50 employees, including psychologists, specialists in psychiatry, specialists in child and adolescent psychiatry, nurses, secretaries and other project staff.
